CALL TO WORSHIP
A Selection from the Psalms
Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!
Our soul waits for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people;
praise his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord!
We wait for the Lord, our soul waits,
and in his word we hope!
OPENING PRAYER
Almighty God.
In You we find our help and our shield.
In You we find favor and rejoicing.
In Your sure Word we find our hope.
And so, we come before You in this day…
To bring praise Your holy Name.
To glory in You, our God.
And to find the comfort and assurance of our faith strengthened by You once again.
Bless us, we pray, as we begin this time of worship.
And send upon us a fresh movement of Your Spirit.
That we might find a new blessing in Your Word and Promises,
and our hearts strengthened to courage,
as we wait on You and Your Kingdom to Come.
In Jesus’ Name we pray.
Amen.
OPENING SONG
Let All Things Now Living
(To be read, sung, or listened to)
Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving
To God the creator triumphantly raise.
Who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us,
Who still guides us on to the end of our days.
His banners are o’er us, His light goes before us,
A pillar of fire shining forth in the night.
Till shadows have vanished and darkness is banished
As forward we travel from light into light.
His law he enforces, the stars in their courses
And sun in its orbit obediently shine;
The hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains,
The deeps of the ocean proclaim him divine.
We too should be voicing our love and rejoicing;
With glad adoration a song let us raise Till all things now living unite in thanksgiving:
“To God in the highest, Hosanna and praise!”
TIME OF OUR CONGREGATION’S PRAYERS
Opening
Gracious God. Loving Father.
As we unite our hearts in prayer, we come before Your Throne to bring our praise.
For we know, Gracious God — that out of nothing You brought forth the heavens, the earth, and all that is in them. That You uphold and rule them, by Your eternal counsel and providence. And that – because of Christ Jesus – you are our God and Father.
And in this we also know, Loving Father — that we are able to trust in You for all we need for body and soul. That You will turn to our good any of the trials or troubles we know, or shall come to know, in this sad world. And that, You are able to do this because You are Almighty God and desire to do this because You are a faithful Father.
For this, O God, we praise Your Name.
And in our praise, we also come before You Father, for we know that – in Christ – we are able to boldly approach Your Throne to find grace in our times of need. And so we bring unto You now our petitions and concerns…
Personal Prayers for Our World, Congregation, and Ourselves
Closing
And now, Gracious God and Loving Father, as we continue in this time of worship, we ask for Your blessing upon it and upon us — that, in it, we might be reminded once again of Your Sovereignty and Providence. And that, through it, we might find the blessing of a new measure of confidence in Your Love and Care…
That we might be patient when things go against us, thankful when things go well, and have good confidence for our future that nothing can separate us from Your Love in Christ Jesus our Lord.
We ask all this in the perfecting power of Your Spirit, and in His precious Name.
Amen.
