What We Believe
What we believe at Riverside Christian Reformed Church can be generally expressed by the beliefs of the Christian Reformed Church in North America. Riverside is one of just over one-thousand congregations across the United States and Canada that are part of the CRC.
Christian
We believe there is one Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and that He has made Himself known to us through the beauty of His world and, in special way, through His inspired Word, the Bible. We believe that all of humanity is lost in sinful rebellion against God and is in need of Salvation. We believe that this salvation is the gift of God to us by grace alone, through faith in the death and resurrection of His Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit guides, comforts, and sustains believers. And we believe—in gratitude for who God is, all He has done, and all He has promised to do—in striving to follow Jesus in all that we do. In this, we hold to three historic, worldwide creeds:
The Apostles’ Creed
The Nicene Creed
The Athanasian Creed
Reformed
As a church in the Reformed faith tradition, our theological roots are found in the Protestant Reformation of the 1500’s. We affirm the Bible as the Word of God, the only reliable guide for faith and life. We also affirm the sovereignty of God over all creation, that salvation is by God’s grace alone, and that the Christian life is lived in gratitude to God for His gifts and blessings. In this, we hold to three historic, Reformed confessions:
The Canons of Dort
Church
As a church, Riverside seeks to be a R.I.V.E.R. that is:
Rooted in the Scriptures as the salvation story of God.
Intentional in developing deep relationships with God and one another through Worship, Prayer, Christian Fellowship, and Service.
Vested in growing healthy disciples of Jesus who bear good fruit for the Kingdom of God.
Enfolding all believers into the Body of Christ.
Reaching the weary and burdened with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
As a faith-family, Riverside seeks to grow T.R.E.E.s who are:
Trusting in Christ alone for salvation and new life by growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Responding to God by seeking a closer walk with Him through a healthy devotional and prayer life.
Engaging in the faith-family of the church by forming authentic relationships with other believers and faithfully giving of their time, talents, and treasures for the Kingdom of God.
Exemplifying Christ in daily life by growing to be more like Him and as a witness for the Gospel.
